Legality Explained

Undergoing update

How our data is collected.

Our data is collected from a multitude of public records and confidential reports from the general public. We do not collect data about people or businesses. All data collected is in the public interest and aligns with UK public interest and data protection laws.

Personal data

We DO NOT collect and process personal data, as such we do not access or share the following information.

Financial data (income, outgoings, credit reports)

Personal data (name, email address, contact number)

As per our compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018

Public interest data

We only collect public interest data in line with the freedom of public information act , here are public interest data examples stating what public interest data is shared in our reports and what is NOT.

Shown in our reports

Property addresses

Property disrepair reports (structural)

Property rodent infestations

Positive owner actions (completed repairs, infestations eradicated, other)

Negative owner actions (repairs incomplete, rodent infestations not eradicated, other)

Property tenture

Property debt/ creditors as per land register

Do we need the property owners consent ?

The short answer is no we do not need property owner consent to hold the information/data we hold due to property disrepair concerns such as structural damage, rodent infestations, gas, electrical issues, and other associated damages/issues or positive actions to eradicate or repair any of the above that would be of public interest when considering sale, purchase, lease or rental of land or property in the UK.

Subject access requests.

In the UK the freedom of information act allows general public to request information from a business within a 28 day period of response.

If your property is listed on our database, you as the owner can submit a subject access request (SAR) to obtain a copy of any information we hold on your property.

When your property is first reported to us our public relations team will write to your address to inform you of the recent report, this letter will contain the "full report" showing all information we hold linked to your property.

A (SAR) will be responded to in the form of this letter being sent out again, all letters are sent in a recorded manner.

Your (SAR) response letter will be sent via post to the address in question, this is because we do not perform credit/ identification checks to verify you are the genuine owner.

My right to be forgotten

The right to be forgotten (formally known as the right of erasure) is formed within the data protection Act 2018, this right allows any person the right to have their personal records with a business or entity removed.

However UK Land Report does not collect personal data, we only collect data relating to property's or land within the UK.

Meaning a property can not legally use a right to be forgotten as its not a physical person of the public, only a plot or structure.

Any personal information found through the public land registration checks our team conduct daily is not saved or recorded as such there is no personal information to be forgotten.

All data held by UK Land Report is of the public interest only.

Right of Removal

Unfortunately there is no formal or legal right to have any data/ information removed from our database due to the categorised information detailed above.

Owners can report updates to our team and have the report updated to reflect positive actions taken by owners.

Owners can apply to our team to have the report privatisation option. (See Report Privatisation page. )
